For us as a company in the recycling industry, sustainability, circular economy and reusing resources play a major role. Some years ago, we recognized that we can contribute even more to conserving resources.
In this article, find out why the EREMA Group decided to offer second-hand plastic recycling machines.
Eight years ago, we asked ourselves what the significance of circular economy and sustainability has for a recycling machine manufacturer. We concluded that recycling refers not only to plastic material but also our machines.
On the 1st of April 2016 we made the final decision to offer second-hand plastic recycling machines.
And that is why we are called UMAC, which stands for Used MAChines.
Sustainability is important to us. Conserving resources is our highest priority. That is why we focus on used machines and components. Because every raw material counts, regardless of whether it is plastic pellets or steel.
EREMA machines feature proven technology that lasts a very long time. During this time, the requirements placed on a machine can change. That is when a new purchase is necessary. However, a used machine is often perfect for meeting the requirements of other companies in countries where the recycling infrastructure is not as advanced.
This is where the price also plays a decisive role. That is the reason why second-hand plastic recycling machines are frequently used in developing countries. Despite the age of these machines, they produce very good quality recyclates.
In addition to that reusing existing machines means that no new materials need to be used to build new ones. In terms of sustainability, that is a step in the right direction towards our vision: “In 2030 we are the company driving the circular economy.”
So where do our second-hand components come from? EREMA manufactures new machines, and, like UMAC, is part of the EREMA Group. Some components are only used for testing for a short while, or they are returned by customers. In such cases, they arrive at UMAC in virtually perfect condition.
Instead of disposing of them, we use them again. We either sell them or install them in our second-hand plastic recycling machines to give the machines an upgrade.
Many customers, including developing countries, would like to have a high-quality EREMA machine. Making this kind of investment is often difficult, especially in the beginning. By selling our second-hand plastic recycling machines, we are meeting the needs of these new markets and countries.
That is how we can give more companies access to high-quality recycling technology. It has a positive effect on the environment. As a result, more plastic is recycled instead of ending up in a landfill.
We are also contributing to giving the image of recycling a boost in these new markets. Ultimately, not only is pollution and the amount of waste in our natural surroundings reduced, but valuable resources are also being conserved.
By selling second-hand plastic recycling machines and components, we are promoting sustainability and saving resources. We are:
That is how we advance our vision as a driving force for the circular economy by 2030.
